I cannot recommend Steve Gaspar and Inspections Plus highly enough. We hired Steve for a home inspection in Newton, Massachusetts, and what impressed us the most was his honesty and the fact that there was never any question about whose interests he represented: ours, as the buyers.Steve is exactly what you want in a Massachusetts home inspector. He is extraordinarily knowledgeable about building science, older homes, roofing, structural issues, moisture intrusion, drainage, ventilation, and the building envelope, but he is also practical and measured. He does not exaggerate minor issues to make an inspection seem more dramatic, and he does not minimize serious issues to keep a real estate transaction moving. He tells you what he actually sees, explains what it means, and recommends further investigation when the evidence warrants it.That independence is incredibly valuable when buying a house. Steve identified several interconnected moisture, roof, drainage, ventilation, and exterior-envelope concerns that could easily have been treated as isolated maintenance items. Instead, he explained how they relate to one another and where concealed damage might exist. At the same time, when he saw conditions that looked unusual but did not appear to require immediate expensive repairs, he said so. There was no sugarcoating or alarmism .His inspection report was exceptionally detailed and useful—not just as a home inspection report, but as a roadmap for understanding and maintaining the property. His knowledge of moisture management, building-envelope problems, roof and attic ventilation, water intrusion, structural conditions, and historic/older Massachusetts homes is particularly impressive.If you are looking for a home inspector in Newton, Greater Boston, or Massachusetts generally—and especially if you are concerned about water intrusion, moisture problems, roof issues, ventilation, siding deterioration, or other building-envelope problems—I would strongly recommend Steve Gaspar and Inspections Plus. He combines the technical knowledge of a building consultant with the loyalty, independence, and integrity you want from someone advising you on one of the largest purchases you will ever make. Steve understood that his job was to give us the information necessary to make the right decision for ourselves. Highly recommend.

Steve is incredibly knowledgeable. My wife and I are first time home buyers, looking at older, New England homes in need of serious TLC. Steve’s walk through was fully recorded and reported, so everything he showed us is ours to keep - he basically just created a full tutorial on “how to own this house”. Now we have the confidence to take the big next step! Highly recommend!
